Frequently Asked Questions
How does the process work?
You can place your order online, through your orthodontist, or by calling us directly. Once your 3D scan is taken, it’s sent to our lab where we design and create your custom-fit sports guard.
How long does the scan take?
Scans are quick and comfortable—usually 15 to 30 minutes. What happens after my scan is taken?
Your orthodontist will send us the scan. Our lab team reviews it carefully and then produces your sports guard using advanced 3D printing technology.
How long will it take to receive my sports guard?
Sports guards are typically delivered within 5 to 7 business days from the time your order is received by the lab.
Can my sports guard be shipped directly to me?
Yes. Unless your orthodontist requests otherwise, your sports guard will be shipped straight to you.
Why choose a custom-fit sports guard instead of a store-bought option?
-Designed specifically for your teeth using a digital scan
-Secure, comfortable fit that won’t fall out while talking or playing
-Protects against dental and oral injuries better than “stock” or “boil & bite” guards
-Allows normal breathing and speech during sports
-Recommended by the American, British, and Irish Dental Associations Studies show custom-fit sports guards reduce dental injuries by at least 50%
How is this different from a boil-and-bite guard?
Boil-and-bite guards:
-Lose protection if bitten too hard during molding
-Don’t cover all teeth properly
-Can feel loose and fall out while speaking
-May interfere with breathing or speech
-A custom-fit guard avoids all these issues by being made specifically for your mouth.
What makes the SportsGuard3D material special?
-Developed over 3 years exclusively for protection and comfort
-Independently tested to be toxin-free and safe
-Engineered with 3D precision down to 100 microns (about the thickness of a human hair)
-Absorbs at least 20% more impact than other custom guards
-Available in 10 colors to match your style
How much more protection does it provide compared to traditional guards?
Independent testing at The Ohio State University showed our custom 3D material absorbs on average 198% more impact than traditional mouthguard materials (and up to 320% more in some cases).
Will I still be able to breathe and talk while wearing it?
Yes. Because it’s made just for you, it fits securely without interfering with breathing or speech.
How long does a custom sports guard last?
It depends on growth and usage. Children usually need a new one each year as their teeth and jaws develop. Adults should have theirs checked annually for wear and tear and consider replacement every 12–18 months.
At what age can my child start wearing a custom sports guard?
As soon as an adult tooth appears, your child is ready for a custom sports guard. Most children start between ages 7–8, though we’ve made them for children as young as 5.
Can a sports guard be made if my child has loose or missing teeth?
Yes. Our lab technicians adjust the design to leave room for new teeth to grow in.
How do I clean and care for my sports guard?
We recommend using cleaning tablets designed for sports guards. Your orthodontist may also suggest other safe cleaning options.
If I already have a scan on file, can I order a replacement without a new scan?
Yes. As long as your scan is still valid and up to date, we can make a replacement directly from it.
What if I need to cancel my order?
If you cancel before production begins, your payment will be refunded to the card you used (minus a small processing fee). If the lab has already started production, we may not be able to cancel.
